TeamTasks — One place for an infrastructure team's work.

A self-hosted task tracker for an infrastructure team. It has two complete UIs on one dataset, Microsoft sign-in, AI summaries and duplicate detection.

The problem

A server team’s work comes from everywhere: projects, tickets, yearly goals, favours. It was scattered across tools that were either too heavy for a small team or too light to answer what is everyone working on, and what’s slipping?

What I built

TeamTasks is a fast, keyboard-friendly tracker built around how the team actually works.

  • Rich tasks: owners and contributors, Markdown descriptions, tags that are added automatically from the text, priorities, milestones, yearly goals, ticket links, private tasks and comment threads.
  • Ownership handover: anyone can request a task, and the owner approves or declines.
  • Overview: status, workload by owner, top tags, 12-week activity and completion rate.
  • Summaries: an automatic standup draft, weekly to yearly reports, and an optional AI summary that can be emailed to the team.
  • AI duplicate detection runs when a task is created, so the same work isn’t tracked twice.
  • Administration: roles, invites, local accounts, announcements, email notifications with a daily overdue digest, backups and restore, and a recycle bin.
  • Two complete layouts: a modern sidebar layout and a classic tabbed one, sharing the same data. Each person chooses their own, with themes and density.

Under the hood

  • No build step: Express 5 and plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Storage: JSON files on disk.
  • Concurrent editing: saves are merged on the server by record ID, so teammates editing at once don’t overwrite each other. The client skips background refreshes while you’re typing.
  • Tests: a sandboxed backend suite plus 104 headless-browser layout and accessibility checks guard the UI across five screen sizes.

Outcome

TeamTasks is the team’s daily driver. The demo is the real app running against a generated team and about 85 tasks. The AI features are simulated in your browser.
